Complesso Polifonico Ghirlanda Musicale

 

Complesso Polifonico Ghirlanda Musicale was founded in Bergamo, Italy, in 1987, under the guidance of Marco Maisano. It currently includes about thirty members, who study and divulge the sacred and profane renaissance polyphony, the sacred choral literature of the baroque period, and a few significant elements of the modern repertoire.

In 1994/1995, during its first decade of activity, it is invited to participate in Milano to a series of concerts celebrating the fourth century from the death of G.P. da Palestrina, with a program dedicated to the “Lamentazioni della Settimana Santa”, composed by the greatest polyphonist of the Italian renaissance.

In recent years Complesso Polifonico Ghirlanda Musicale collaborates with several instrumental groups for the interpretation of music of the baroque repertoire.

In 1998 it takes part to an execution of “Magnificat” by A. Vivaldi in the Duomo of Milano.

In December 2001 this choral group gives a series of concerts in Alsace (France): the Concert for Telethon in Mulhouse, and the one for the Festival “Noël en Choeur” in Munster.

Ghirlanda Musicale subsequently has participated in Austria to the prestigious International Choral Festival vokal.total 2002, organized in Graz by the Steirische Sängerbund and the ORF (Österreichische Rundfunk). The concert was transmitted alive over the Internet.

In December 2003 it participates successfully to the third edition of the Christmas Choral Festival in Budapest.

Over the years 2005 and 2007 Complesso Polifonico Ghirlanda Musicale is repeatedly invited in Milano, in the basilica of S. Marco and in the church of “S. Angelo dei frati minori” in the context of prestigious musical exhibitions.

In 2008, in the “Sala Piatti” in upper city of Bergamo, it executes rare international compositions of the early twentieth century as part of the program “Suoni tra due mondi”.

In February 2010 gives concerts both in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen and in the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Recently (Fall 2011) Ghirlanda Musicale records a new CD in the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the ensemble foundation (1987-2012) with music by Antonio Soler, Domenico Cimarosa, Luigi Lorenzi, Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Fauré. The same pieces are at the same part of the sound track of a DVD dedicated to the evidences of the Kephalon’s massacre. This documenti is realized by Istituti Universitari di Siena e Arezzo in collaboration with the Ass.Naz.Divisione Acqui, and is spread out within a project by the European Union.

In September  2012 Ghirlanda Musicale participated the memorial of the 69th anniversary of the massacre of Italian soldiers in the Ionian Islands in September 1943 holding a  celebratory concert in the Corfu’s cathedral, by the invitation of the Catholic Archbishopric and attended by the local Authorities. 

In October 2014 a new CD is recorded – now available – Messa Gasparina (1755 ca.) by Quirino Gasparini (Gandino, Bergamo 1721-Torino 1778), in June 2013 Ghirlanda Musicale took care of the first modern execution after the reconstruction and revision by Marco Maisano from the original manuscripts of the time.
